These cards came in handy for my grandson who is learning how to write fractions. The cards have them shown many different ways to understand fractions easier. He is now a wiz at his 3rd grad mathI highly recommend. I use these flash cards for my fifth grader, Fractions Flash Cards (which I believe were about $2.00, a great value). They have given her a basic understanding of fractions. From using the cards, my daughter understands 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, etc. She also understands from the cards that 2/3 is 4/6, and so forth.I bought these with Learning Resources Fraction Tower Activity Set Equivalency Cubes which are very helpful manipulables I use with my fifth grader to teach her fractions. She can break them off and feel them in her hands. She understands that two quarters makes a half, and two halves makes a whole. From using the Equivalency Cubes, my daughter understands that fractions can be represented as percentages and decimals. This is a worthwhile purchase, and will help your student learn and touch and understand before breaking into written problems.I am glad I made this purchase. My daughter likes these tools as well. It is good to get away from just working problems. I would purchase these again and recommend them to other parents.I love that the back of the cards tell what the picture shows and that the "Wholes" are all the same size and shape so comparisons are easy to distinguish. Each denominatior has its own color on the picture side which is helpful to us when sorting them. I am homeschooling my son (Kindergarten) Fractions just blend right in with what he's learning right now (Music notes are all fractions of a measure, clock reading, and breaking down dollars into coins) and I'm happy I found flashcards that help him that were cheap enough to not make me question making my own. I bought some plastic fraction manipulatives too that I use these with that make a fun 'game' when used together.You know your kid best, I felt these were good for my 4th grader. Basic and 1/2 he knew right away. No huge challenge so probably perfect for a 8 year old/3rd grade.Cards are thin. If you have light behind you the kiddos can see the answer.These are great! She was finding the concept very difficult to understand these cards made it much clearer and easier for her to understand. They are colourful and easy for her to handle. I also purchased the pizza fraction game, which also supported her learning. I have purchased other maths style cards from amazon.I bought these for my 10 year old who I was told was struggling to reel off answers quickly enough in class when put on the spot and thought these may help. I also bought the multiplication and division flash cards.These are brilliant and really helped her the teacher commented that she had noticed a difference too.
